(94.5 The Buzz) A10-year-old girl has become one of the worlds youngest mothers after giving birth to a healthy baby girl last week.
A member of an indigenous tribe called the Wayuu based in the La Guajira Peninsula in the north of Colombia, reports say she arrived at the hospital bleeding, in floods of tears and 'enormous' pain from the contractions.
Although Colombian police could go after the father of the baby for underage sex, the country's constitution guarantees the Wayuu a certain amount of freedom, which gives the tribe to the right to practice certain cultural heritages, of which one is said to be the giving birth of children at an extremely young age.
Though this new mother is young, she is not the youngest mother on record. That title goes to Lina Medina, a Peruvian girl who gave birth just two weeks after her fifth birthday.
